The Asir region, located in the southwest of Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage—both tangible and intangible. The name “Asir,” meaning “difficult” in Arabic, reflects the historical challenge of traversing its mountainous terrain. Today, Asir has become a growing destination for both domestic and international tourists, with ongoing governmental efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development and enhancing tourism in the region.
The Diyar Open Air Mall was conceived as a catalyst to support this vision, enhancing the area’s capacity to attract visitors while addressing local community needs. The architectural design integrates harmoniously with the cultural and urban fabric of the region, drawing inspiration from Asir’s intangible heritage—particularly the traditional art of Al-Qatt Al-Asiri. This influence is reflected in the use of vibrant colors and distinctive motifs, which are thoughtfully incorporated into the mall’s architectural language to create a lively, contextually rooted, and culturally resonant experience.
